okay yes, the fact that grown ma kidnaps a 12 year old and has sex with her a lot and is obsessed with her is fucked up, but that’s not even the most fucked up thing about the book. the book is so horribly fucked up because it messes with your head. the writing is so beautiful, it makes the book seem like the most beautiful love story of all time. and then you feel fucked up for thinking that in the first place.

like at the end when she’s with the the other dude she married and humbert humbert is begging for her back and promising her a better life and she refuses but he gives her the money anyway and he starts crying- i don’t know. i was really touched by the part and then i realized how weird it was that i was relating to the pedophile (in terms of the feeling of rejection).

weird book, but it’s beautiful.
